Artist Feature: Brown & Gammon

The first time I was graced by the sound of rising Circus Records dubstep artist Brown & Gammon was on Kill the Noise‘s dubut album on OWSLA, Kill Kill Kill. The UK-based producer’s remix of Dying brought to my ears an entirely new and fresh sound, something I hadn’t heard in the dubstep scene for quite a while. He combined the classic Circus flavor with a new infusion of smooth reggae rhythms and some of the most beautiful and innovative melodies I’ve ever had the pleasure to behold to create something both extremely original and accessible.

Blow My Mind, released along with Riddle Me This has been blowing up all across the global dubstep scene, with UK giants like Flux Pavilion, Doctor P and Cookie Monsta dropping it consistently in every set over the last month. The drop brings with it a bass-heavy melody that will no doubt be stuck in your head for days (I can attest to that), and halfway through the action we get a genious, grooving break down to 128 bpm. Truly flawless.

I was addicted to this tune for a good week or two; I’d have to play it every couple of hours or I would start feeling uncomfortable. It’s got a much more “chilled-out” vibe, with unobtrusive, pitch-sliding wobbles underlying a wonderful composition of reggae-influenced drums and vocal samples. I think a YouTube comment sums it up most concisely: “It’s like walking down the happiest street of your life.” Brings a smile to my face every time.

I recently found this track while combing through Brownie’s SoundCloud. It’s an example of his older work, but his ingenuity and musical talent still shine through.

This next track is one of his most recent works. The melodic section after the drop is absolutely astounding.

And, finally, here’s a track he just posted a few hours ago. He dropped it in his BBC Radio 1xtra Daily Dose of Dubstep mix yesterday, and it’s got everything you could ask for. I had to rip it, so I apologize for the 128.
